The Washington 2022 End of Season dinner, belatedly held in Martha's Bar at the Wash on 11th February, was a very happy affair. And, we are delighted to report that long time club stalwart (having played since way back when he was just a wee lad and didn't need to shave) and skipper Max Murrain, has now had his name forever etched onto the Washington CC Clubman Trophy. After taking the lions share of the votes from his team mates, and beating off one close challenger for the title, Max has been duly crowned the Washington CC Clubman 2022. He drank from the cup as is the custom and even wore a fancy suit for the occasion or maybe it was for a wedding he was attending afterwards. Anyway, it doesn't matter, cos he won so well done and Congratulations to Maxxy. He also picked up the Bowlers Award, having amassed 33 wickets in the season, so stellar outing for the young man.
Rory Vokes-Dudgeon took home the Batsmen Award in his debutant year (a class effort with the bat RVD so well done and long may that sort of behaviour continue), while Shyam Pushpanath our extraordinary slipper, added the Fielder of the Year award to his already no doubt impressive collection of cricketing trophies. The Silly Point Award was given to two gents, Mr Keith Williams and Mr Sam Collins for what must be said was an extraordinarily close call in the field, during our fixture against The Hollybush on 29th May 2022. It left one of those lads in much pain and I'm sure they will be better fielders for the experience. A little less "village" in 2023 please fellas. Just displaced clubman Mark "trois stumpings" Molloy was endowed with the Captains Award and newcomer Justin Wolfington topped it all off with the Most-Improved Player of 2022. Congratulations to all! Well deserved. We all had a lovely late lunch washed down with cold beer and wine and several of the stayers amongst us returned to the main bar to finish off the evening in some style. Next event will be the AGM on 14th April, also at The Wash pub. Pencil that in your diaries.
